The most commonly referred to type of scoliosis is idiopathic scoliosis, which is generally found in children starting around the age 10 or when they start puberty. Scoliosis is a condition that causes the spine to curve sideways. Idiopathic simply means that the cause of the scoliosis is unknown. Although the cause is unknown, the treatment is well established and the most effective in reducing the curves and maintaining corrections if treated during puberty.
